Hi, I'm Nitya. KayaDenim grew from my love of art, embroidery, and the idea that something as familiar as a denim jacket can become a completely unique piece of art.
Each piece is individually created using free-hand machine embroidery. Rather than following a computerized embroidery pattern, I guide the fabric and build the artwork with thread, color, texture, and detail.
Every piece begins with an idea.
Inspiration can come from nature, flowers, animals, people, memories, or simply a combination of colors that catches my imagination.
I work directly on denim, gradually building the image with layers of thread. Because the embroidery is created by hand, no two pieces are exactly alike. Even when an idea or subject is revisited, the finished work develops its own character.
Some pieces take many hours to complete. I enjoy that process—the small details, the unexpected changes along the way, and finally seeing an ordinary piece of denim become something entirely different.
